About The Artist

With a lifelong love of drawing and painting, Shaana-Anne works across mixed media to explore themes of identity, spirituality, and emotional processing. Her playful, symbolic practice often featuring aliens as a recurring alter-ego forms part of what she describes as an alienatic approach, allowing each artwork to determine its own form, from illustration and mixed-media assemblage to wearable works, guided by emotion and intuitive connection.
Alongside her studio practice, Shaana-Anne is actively engaged in arts education and community-based creative work. Holding a Bachelor of Secondary Education (Visual Arts), she combines formal training with hands-on experience to create inclusive, accessible, and meaningful creative spaces.

Over the past six years, she has designed and delivered art experiences and education across a wide range of ages and settings. This includes work within OOSH/OSHC programs, early childhood education as a resident artist, guest artist involvement in SRE’s annual Art Camp, Highschools, and community workshops delivered in collaboration with local councils and fellow artists.

Shaana-Anne’s professional practice also extends into the broader contemporary arts sector. In 2023, she was mentored for 12 months through the Newcastle Art Space mentorship program, followed by Tantrum Youth Arts’ Cartwheel, a 12 month initiative supporting emerging artists.

In 2025 she was a finalist for the Hunter Emerging Art Prize, and a featured artist for New Annual SURGE event at Newcastle Museums with Tantrum Youth Arts.

Through her creative and educational work, Shaana-Anne has collaborated and assisted with a number of Australian Artists, Jen Denzin, Rosie Deacon, Dr Louisa Magrics, and with her fellow ‘The Menzies’ Artists.
